I was happily soldering away in the equipment room area in the basement of Baswich House, Staffordshire Police HQ, once when the Comms Officer came in and told me I needed to go outside as there was a fire alarm going off (it didn’t appear to work in the basement so he kindly came down to tell me…)....

Martin and myself started at Romsley within a few weeks of each other in 1974, he was due to move to Duke St and I was to stay at RY, but for travelling convenience we swapped places. He joined RY from the RN where latterly he had been a comms tech on the Ark Royal, with many stories to tell...! Aft...
