DIRECTORATE OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS ADMINISTRATION By: R J P Hayes page 4 of 5
3 Customer Requirements
This section ascertains additional and replacement requirements of the Directorate's customers, makes financial provision for expenditure on telecommunications equipment to meet those requirements and liaises with the Procurement Section which buys the equipment. The necessary information to enable these assessments to be made is obtained by annual enquiry of chief officers and by reference to Directorate records.
When firm operational requirements are received from customers the Section authorises the issue of equipment from central stores for installation by the field staff.
The section also has responsibility for operating licensing aspects, and the installation of standby power supplies at wireless relay stations within the emergency network.
4 Staffing
This section is concerned with the general administration and organisation of the Directorate. In particular it is concerned, in conjunction with the Home Office Establishment Department, with the recruitment, allocation and transfer of staff and their pay and conditions of service; and with the complementing of all the Directorate's establishments. The section is also concerned with stores procedures and it co-ordinates the building programmes at the Directorate's establishments and arranges for the provision and replacement of all vehicles required by the field services.
The section also includes the Project Control Office and Library. The project control system is designed to progress all the activities of the Directorate, to provide information on work load assessments, and to enable necessary action to be taken to avoid delays and to meet target dates. The officer in charge of project control also maintains the Directorate's technical library.
