Figaro Base

Pictured here is the Figaro base station and operators telephone handset.

Figaro was a low frequency (3 MHz) radio communication system developed during the mid-1970's to enable two-way transmission between surface and underground emergency response teams. The equipment was maintained by the Directorate at Weyhill Maintenance Unit.

More information on the system can be found in Intercom Journals 10 (pages 22-28) and Intercom Journal 11 (Pages 14-16).
