Looking back now, I am reminded that as a young ‘headstrong twenty year old’ joining the Directorate, for all its structured work ethic compared to some of my previous ‘private sector’ jobs, the organisation provided an interesting, caring, stimulating, purposeful, educational and almost ‘family like’ environment, which made going to work fun and with a constant sense of achievement and satisfaction. In today’s fast moving, hard-nosed, commercially driven and far less caring environment, where company loyalty in my view does not exist to the same degree as 37 years ago, I feel lucky to have experienced working in that earlier climate.
