The photograph shows a BCC 46U VHF Transportable manufactured by BRITISH COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION Wembley in the early 1960’s for the Police Service. I certainly remember the fist microphones, but never personally came across this equipment.

Update from Bryn Oliver (02/03/2007): Thanks for advising me that this photo shows a BCC (not BICC) 46U. Apparently, Bryn had one of these radios, which he donated to Dave Hicks G8EPR who has a collection of Pye and Other emergency services equipment, runs a web site called the Pye Museum and lives in Bewdley, Worcestershire and has a massive collection of radios.
