Martin Swift

March 1985; a younger looking Martin seen here at Romsley Depot prior to the demolition and subsequent construction of the new building.

"In 1985 I was a Senior Wireless Technician running the Regional Installation Team, involved in the initial phases of the WARC frequency change project and was based at Romsley. The box Transit on the right was affectionally known as the 'Rolling Pig, due its tendency to wallow around and interesting driving characteristics when loaded with equipment racks in the back...! The hedges around the Midlands were littered with its near side wing mirrors at the time !!

Behind is the garage and motorcycle bay, on the right the outside stores, to the left is the vehicle installation bay, at the rear is the main depot building, with the 'Wooden Hut' and installation team portacabins in the distance.

The tower held a CAA radar microwave link, I believe from Titterstone Clee Hill to West Drayton. It was taken down and the re-build of Romsley Depot started shortly after the photograph was taken".
