Re: Cranbrook
Hello Des, Sorry, I don't have any contact info as I moved from Cranbrook to Hannington and then to Weyhill so lost contact with many of the old hands. I do know Laurie Jarman became an SWT at Cranbrook, Pappy Malone retired in 1976 and Peter May became the RWE of Cheveley Depot. I left DTELS in ...

Re: Hi From BILL KNOX Late Cranbrook-Bedford & Cambs o/s
Hello Bill, About the same here with number of radio projects on the go to use the old skills and keep the mind working. I still live in the Newbury area which is where we moved to when I went to Hannington. We didn't move when I subsequently went to Weyhill as the children were taking their GCSE ...

Re: Hi From BILL KNOX Late Cranbrook-Bedford & Cambs o/s
Hello Bill, Still around this end, though as you say a number of people we knew are no longer with us. Sorry to hear you have lost your wife. Lets hope the jabs help us all get back to some form of normal life.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: GODFREY PANKHURST (WT - CRANBROOK)
Very Sorry to hear this as Godfrey was one of natures gentlemen. Always polite, helpful and with a good sense of humour.
For many years he was based at the Canterbury Outstation where the customers spoke highly of him.
Godfrey RIP

Re: Cranbrook
One thing I forgot about the depot working back in 1967 was that it was manned 7 days a week. During the weekends and holidays it was manned by two tecs. They were expected to handle all the region main scheme and the newly introduced Pocket Phone systems faults. If there were no faults then they ...

Re: Cranbrook
Some more. The SOG was Colin Piper and the Store's AA was Janet Russell. Colin had owned a shop in Cranbrook town. A post office/grocery shop, he bought from one of my distant relations in the 1950's!
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Cranbrook
Yes sorry Steve, The non technical staff were - 2 AA. 1 AO. 1 SOG C or D. One of the AA's was in the stores. 1 Cleaner/Handyman. 1 Cook. 1 Motor Mechanic. I can't remember any EO, maybe the SOGC? The outstations had only just started and were manned by Technicians only. No SWT's or WM's at that ...

I was at Cranbrook from March 1967 and don't remember Dorothy. The RWE at that time was John Harris. Approx depot staff at that time - 1 RWE, 1 CWT, 4 SWT, 10 WT, 4 WM.
Thanks,
Dave

Hello David, last time I saw you was in late 1967 at your leaving do at the Peacock Pub near Cranbrook town. You were transferring to the IOW outstation. I was one of the WT's at Cranbrook. Glad you hear you on the DTELS web site.

Re: TOM RAWLANCE (CRANBROOK)
Sad news, I knew Tom through a mate who lives in Eastbourne and then found out we both had worked at Cranbrook, though at different times.
A good person.

Re: Eddie Mole
I knew Eddie well, he was one of the main stays of Cranbrook depot. I can remember Eddie, Fred Pickard and me going out in heavy snow to rescue a team stuck at Cossington. Plus us working together in the PC workshop. He was a good guy with a keen sense of humour and would help anybody that needed ...

Re: DAVE PACK (SWT - GUILDFORD DETACHMENT)
Dave was well respected within the Hannington Region both technically and as a person. As an SWT at Hannington I always found him to be very helpful when I was working on his patch.
