Pen-y-Fforest found

I have received a couple of emails that have identified the mast located on Black Mixen hill as the one know as Pen-y-Fforest. A photograph of this mast (http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7811) and many other HO masts may be found on the Geograph site along with other features of the countryside.

If anyone can remember just the odd link on the pre-WARC network it may be helpful in putting together a few more pieces. For example A photo of Charter house on this site (https://www.dtels.org/html/shapwick_vr_10.html) mentions the UKWMO link passing from Bristol to Exeter. It all helps.

Many Thanks

Desperately seeking Pen-y-Fforest

With the exception of Pen-y-Fforest I have managed to successfully track down all the hilltop sites used for the Royal Observer Corps at Wrexham in the pre-WARC era. The ordinance survey Gazetteer finds only one place with this name but it looks unlikely for a number of reasons. It is 60 miles from the mast it has a VHF link with. There is higher ground in between. No mast is shown at the location. Another mast mentioned in the HO circular HOC 155/1963 - USE OF POLICE WIRELESS STATIONS FOR CIVIL DEFENCE PURPOSES AND THE PROVISION OF EMERGENCY GENERATORS is only 10 miles away and on a far better site another 200 Metres above it.

Could anyone please assist in locating the Pen-y-Fforest mast and is it still there now?

Thanks in anticipation
Steve
