Home Office Directorate Personal Radio Memo 1968

In 1968 Mr. Ray Stoodley from the Directorate wrote a eight page memorandum that is thought to have been circulated to Police Forces in England and Wales outlining the progress to-date regarding the introduction to service of personal radio communication.  The document gives an overview of the work that had been carried out over a period of some years prior to the memo, equipment’s that had been evaluated during trials and an indication of the anticipated numbers of units and frequency bands required to support personal radio communication.

For those people who are interested in understanding more about one of the major changes in Police communication philosophy during the 1960’s and the subsequent impact to the Directorate in the creation of UHF Personal Radio Schemes, this memorandum is worth reading to catch up on a bit of early history.

Please note that the six page document is a photocopy of the original memorandum, hence the poor image quality.
